How FITGMR’s holistic health app powers gamers and esports athletes
FITGMR introduces a mobile app that enhances recreational gamers and esports athletes’ well-being
About
When RedBull wanted to develop a high performance training system for the esports teams and streamers they sponsored, they looked no further than FITGMR Co-Founder, Dr. Holden MacRae.
In 2017, using his 30+ years of experience in sports science, physiology and high performance, Dr. MacRae created the FITGMR 5 Pillars of Health aimed at redefining the gamer lifestyle.
The 5 Pillars of Health frameworks is a blend of physical and mental training programs that equips gamers and esports athletes to conquer sedentary gaming lifestyles.
By redefining the boundaries of gaming performance and community support, FITGMR inspires today’s youth to embrace physical activity, bridging the gap between gaming and health, wellness, and fitness.
Challenge
Esports athletes and gamers encounter unique health struggles due to prolonged screen time and the intense competitive environment, leading to issues such as eye strain and mental health concerns like stress, anxiety, and burnout, which traditional training methods fail to adequately address.
Acknowledging the unique health challenges faced by gamers and esports athletes, FITGMR provides support for professional players, coaches, and managers worldwide; raising awareness and bringing well-deserved recognition to the esport industry.
However, FITGMR needed a sophisticated solution to effectively engage this tech-savvy group and introduce the “5 Pillars of Health” to casual gamers.
Solution
To achieve this lofty goal, FITGMR formed an ongoing partnership with Lumenalta to translate their comprehensive training program into a dynamic app catered to the needs of esports athletes and recreational gamers.
Tapping into the players’ competitive nature, the app incorporates gamer-centric features like a badge system where users can earn badges for achieving specific fitness and health metrics; providing a powerful incentive for active participation.
The FITGMR mobile app integrates strategies targeting mental and physical well-being, aiming to prioritize performance in gaming. In addition, the app seamlessly connects with wearable fitness trackers like the Apple Watch, Fitbit, and Oura Ring, allowing users to integrate their physical activity stats directly into the FITGMR app.
Meanwhile, the web application serves as a comprehensive health and wellness dashboard that enables coaches and managers to track and monitor player development via the mobile application, empowering them to better support players’ overall health. This integrated approach provides a holistic view of each athlete’s progress and wellness.
Lumenalta’s agile team approach facilitated the seamless integration of design, development, and feedback interactions, ensuring an accessible and user-friendly platform. Both the mobile and web apps have undergone significant growth, iteration, and refinement over the past two years.
Through continuous improvement efforts, these platforms have been perfected, polished, and expanded with additional features to meet the evolving demands of the audience and enrich the experience for recreational gamers, esports athletes, and teams alike.
Results
Following the initial launch, the FITMGR app reached 1,000 subscribers demonstrating significant enhancements in user experience and outcomes.
These reflected a multitude of positive changes including enhanced academic performance with reported improvements in GPAs, increased self-confidence leading to significant personal growth, improved emotional regulation during gaming sessions, and a notable rise in physical activity levels among participants.
Furthermore, FITGMR’s expertise and innovative solutions have garnered recognition from key industry stakeholders. FITGMR is currently the health and wellbeing partner to all three global governing bodies of esports: The International Esports Federation, Global Esports Federation and World Esports Consortium.
FITGMR was also recently asked to co-author a white paper regarding the inclusion of esports in the Olympics which has been presented to the Esports Commission of the International Olympic Committee.
This acknowledgment underscores FITGMR’s position as a trailblazer in the esports performance and player development space. Their success is a powerful illustration of how technology can become a game-changer in fostering holistic player growth.
